Christmas! I love Christmas. When we’re in Mo’orea, it’s a Christmas evening feast filled with foie gras, champagne, a chocolate log, and setting up the Crèche de Noël (you can read about my last Christmas in Mo’orea here).
In Australia, it’s oysters, prawns, curry, ham, homemade vegetable pickles, pavlova, and my 103-year-old grandma playing Santa Claus.
Over the years I’ve made a bunch of Christmas cards (and general greeting cards), either as commissions for friends and family, or to give away myself. Here are a couple of my favourite!
Flowers and natives
One thing I love about being home is the flora. The golden wattle is a favourite
Another one is the banksias, which come in a variety of stunning colours.
There’s a house next to us that has some beautiful massive Waratahs (which I also feel have a Christmas-y feel to them).
And then there’s the Christmas-coloured kangaroo paw which I love because it’s a bit on the strange side.
Cute critters
I’ve previously talked about turning into a crazy chicken lady here, but I did these lil guys for my parents-in-law before I’d even met them at the request of my then-boyfriend, now-husband:
And I’ve always loved doing Australian animals, like laughing kookaburras and snoozing koalas.
And even though Christmas in Australia is usually boiling hot, you can’t go past a snowman… although mine is dressed for the Aussie heat and drinking a cold beer.
And there’s always room for a ‘lil Christmas pun
It’s not Christmas without a big bowl of cherries (I’m eating some as I type this!)
This one feels like it belongs on the apron of your batty wine aunt:
And this one, which will only make sense to Australians who have watched Kath and Kim:
